Welcome



Our group is located at the Department of Chemistry and at the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM) and Graphene Research Centre at the National University of Singapore. Assoc. Prof. Nijhuis is also a member of NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering (NGS). We are interested in nano-scale electronic devices. We exploit non-conventional fabrication techniques to produce structures with unique properties to advance fundamental understanding and to improve the performance of devices. Our research mainly focuses on studies of the mechanisms of charge transport at the nano-scale which are important to understand for applications ranging from energy storage, green energy, to device miniaturization. We are mainly investigating charge transport at the molecular scale and use self-assembled monolayers layers of molecules of exactly one molecule thick that form spontaneously on gold and silver surfaces for instance sandwiched between two metal electrodes as model systems. Other research topics involve the manipulation of light at the nanoscale in the form of plasmons, and the use of graphene to enhance the performance of existing devices (see our research page for more details).
